People around the world are involved in leather manufacture. This textile has been used on a daily basis through centuries. Nowadays The annual area of leather produced is around 19,000 million square feet, an average of around 2 million square feet per tannery, However, this 80 billion market have many costs.

Leather production is a byproduct of meat production and leads to deforestation as well as greenhouse emission, even 150kg of CO2 per 1m2 of product.
80% of leather worldwide is tanned using chrome, a highly toxic process that results in a significant toxic waste being released into waterways, and serious harm to industrial tannery workers.
Leather alternatives are mostly made from PCV or PU, which are plastic based substances, even plant-based leathers contain non-compostable ingredients that makes the textiles hard to recycle or compost.
Natural leather requires a lot of land for animal breeding, chemicals and back breaking human labor. The alternatives are mostly made with plastics. This is why we invented materials vertical farm, where we can produce leather-like material that doesn't require a lot of time, space, and resources to grow.TansLeather is a lab grown material that skips the typical harmful manufacturing processes like tanning, without sacrificing the material properties.
How is it done?
We take plant based byproducts or wastes and feed it to naturally occurring microbes. By using a vertical farming technique these microbes convert the food waste into leather like material in a matter of days. The material is harvested, dried and turned into textile that behaves and feels just like a leather we knew from centuries, but without environmental and health sacrifices.

You can treat our textile just like conventional leather. For sewing bags, shoes or furnitures.
FAST GROWN & CIRCULAR
Our process use plant waste to grow material, that can be composted after use.
We grow material in rectangural sheets without hairs or imperfections and that avoids waste of cut-offs.
